The company that wanted to plant trees

The company that wanted to plant trees

Summer is coming slowly, but that doesn't stop the trees from growing. 2000 new trees have just been planted in the Saint-Hyacinthe region and that's just the beginning!

As part of the Month of the Tree and the Forest, a great group of volunteers from the Comité des citoyens/citoyennes pour la protection de l'environnement maskoutain (CCCPEM), as well as the Matelas bleu.eco team, organized a big tree planting event.

Trees make a difference

This gesture is highly significant. Indeed, there is an international movement to increase the canopy of cities and the countryside. Acting on the tree canopy can improve the environment, health and quality of life of residents, while offering an economically viable response to climate change.

Trees ensure our well-being and the quality of the environment, while forming an effective biological infrastructure to respond to multiple crises simultaneously. They reduce ambient heat and the incidence of heat islands, capture pollution and catch rainwater before it clogs municipal drains. They also contribute to property value appreciation.

In short, the more trees we plant, the better off we are for ourselves and the planet. It is a practical solution, relatively easy to achieve and generates social synergy.

Our plans for the future: Trees.eco

Remember the name, Arbres.eco. The project was born from the initiative of the company Bleu.eco and a group of Maskoutain volunteers who are very committed to the environment. We think big! Here's what we want to do:

  1. Arbre.eco organizes planting events, planned with cities, farmers and private estates. To mark the occasion, two planting periods per year are planned: one in May during the week of the tree and another in October.
  2. The trees are subsidized by bleu.eco, companies and individuals who want to do their part by compensating their greenhouse gas emissions. We keep the costs low (4$/tree), because the goal is to plant thousands of trees!
  3. The trees are planted by volunteers and community organizations (interested? Contact us! We're taking all the help we can get to launch this great project).
  4. A portion of the donations collected is given to the community organizations that plant the trees with their volunteers. The project is therefore also a good way to finance these organizations (it's better than selling chocolate bars!).

Finally, let's remember that Matelas bleu.eco has committed to planting 3 trees for each mattress sold, in order to contribute to a cleaner and more ecological future. The company is now thinking much bigger. By sponsoring Arbres.eco in its infancy, the Maskoutain mattress company will eventually help dozens of Quebec citizens and businesses to do their part.

Trees.eco is on its way to becoming a recognized NPO and will be launching its website in the coming weeks. Follow us in the adventure!
