J’ai essayé le matelas dans une boîte...

I tried the mattress in a box...

After another very bad night for my back, I woke up one morning determined to change my mattress.

I'm really tired of waking up in the morning with a stiff neck and a back that takes forever to fully unfold. And yet, I do my yoga! And yet, I do my stretches daily. And yet, I've changed my pillows at least 8 times, to try to remedy the situation. So, after all that, I'm determined to get to the source of the problem: we change the mattress!

This time I wanted to buy something different: the mattress in a box ( bed in a box ) had intrigued me for a long time. [ ** see note at the end of the article ]

I already knew about mattresses in a box, the few American brands that sell online and are starting to break into the Canadian market, but I wanted to buy local. Determined to go see what's happening in Quebec on this front, I sat down at my computer and a few clicks later, I discovered bleu.eco .

The concept is interesting: a foam mattress that you buy online and then get delivered to your home in a box. Rather than spending a few Saturday afternoons going around the stores to try out mattresses, it is now possible to shop and order your mattress in just a few clicks, and if you believe the many comments, the formula is popular… and the mattresses too!

The qualities I was looking for in my future mattress

When it came to mattresses, I had already tried several a few years ago, when my daughter moved into an apartment. So, I knew what was on the market, the comfort levels and the price ranges. Spring mattresses, latex mattresses, foam mattresses: each has its advantages and all come in different models for small and large budgets. Then comes our personal tastes.

What was I looking for in my mattress?

Of course, comfort and a respite from my back pain! As well as good value for money. But not only that… there was also things I did NOT want in my mattress.

A mattress in a box that's pretty green!

I wanted a mattress that was as “green” as possible, without flame retardant (brominated flame retardants), which are recognized to be endocrine disruptors : their effects can harm hormonal functioning, including that of the thyroid. And I wanted to find a mattress without products harmful to the environment , or containing as few of these products as possible.

I also wanted a mattress that would keep me cool at night: as you know (I'm talking mainly to girls here!) there are times in our lives when mozusse-qu'on-atoo hot at night, and it prevents us from getting back to sleep. So, for me, there's no question of spending my nights on a mattress that doesn't "breathe".

The mattress offered at bleu.eco seemed to bring together the qualities I was looking for:

  • A high quality foam mattress that eliminates pressure points: excellent for my lumbar region!
  • A high-density natural memory foam: it will keep its shape for years (no “hollow” in the middle of the bed).
  • The mattress foams and covers do not contain any flame retardants or halocarbons. (CFC-HCFC), often used in the manufacture of mattresses, harmful to our health and to the environment.
  • A foam that keeps the body cool, thanks to a breathable gelflex layer.

In addition, the company is concerned with reducing its ecological footprint: for each mattress sold, blue.eco will plant 3 trees . The trees for the mattresses sold during 2017 will be planted in spring 2018: the company will also document the event, with supporting photos.

This is also a factor that charmed me.

Buy without trying?

Even though I consider myself an informed consumer, who does a lot of research before buying (ask Chéri: I read articles and do research before making my choices!), buying a mattress online without trying it out is still a bit insecure.

To make us more comfortable with this, bleu.eco offers us:

  • a 100-night trial period: their mattresses are designed to offer universal comfort and this trial period is there to allow us to test it.
  • a telephone information service: the website has a wealth of detailed information and if we still have any questions, the staff are easy to reach to provide answers.

A mattress in a box delivered to my door

Once I bought the mattress online, all I had to do was wait.

In less than 4 days, my mattress arrives: a mattress in a box, a nice big box, which the friendly delivery man carries up my few steps.

All that was left was to place the box in the room and open it all up.

What is done in no time :

  • The mattress is wrapped in plastic, which can be removed with the small tool provided in the packaging: no risk of damaging our new mattress.
  • Even though the mattress is heavy (about 80 pounds: it's high quality foam!) it unrolls easily and springs back into shape instantly.

A few minutes later, my mattress is already installed on my bed base. It has a very nice look, by the way, with its eucalyptus fiber cover, and fits in very well with the decor!

What I liked about the “mattress in a box” experience:

My experience with blue.eco was perfect in every way. My nights are now spent in the cool, comfortably wrapped in my blankets, resting on this foam mattress that takes care of my back.

Here are some things that made a difference for me:

  • Customer experience: Very good advice, fast communication and a really friendly contact.
  • Procurement: It is very easy to choose your mattress using the information on the site. In addition, if you hesitate, you can easily contact the owners who know how to advise you according to your needs.
  • The mattress: Very comfortable, excellent firmness to support my back.
  • No odor: Some foam pillows or mattresses give off an odor when you unpack them and you have to let them air for a few days. These odors have always bothered me. However, the Bleueco mattress does not give off any odor: you can sleep on it immediately.
  • A company with heart: She is involved in a project to deliver 40 mattresses and pillows to abandoned or orphaned children in Haiti. The mattresses are donated to Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes Children's Home in Croix-des-Bouquets, which houses, feeds and educates around a hundred abandoned or orphaned children, aged 1 to 18. This project was carried out through the Fendli charity.
  • Ecological: Matelas Bleueco is concerned about taking care of the planet and for me, this is one more criterion to choose them. No fire retardants in this mattress or in the 2 covers provided; no CFC-HCFC harmful to the environment; a packaging box made of recycled cardboard and a program to reduce their ecological footprint.

I wish you nights as beautiful as mine!

Sylvie

Merci beaucoup Bleueco !!!
